Inmate found dead in Pierce County Jail; Investigations are ongoing

PIERCE COUNTY, Wash. – A 35-year-old female inmate was found dead in the Pierce County Jail Monday morning.

At around 9:30 a.m., correctional officers found an unresponsive inmate in one of their housing units.

According to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department, officers then immediately performed life-saving measures and administered Narcan to the woman.

“Unfortunately, the 35-year-old woman was pronounced deceased,” PCSD wrote in a news release.

The PCSD said both its detectives and forensic investigators responded to the jail to investigate the death and that the coroner’s office also responded.

The case is still under investigation, the PCSD said.
