Sony Group Corporation announced on September 30 that Tony Vinciquerra, chairman/CEO of Sony Pictures Entertainment, will step down at the end of the year. Ravi Ahuja, SPE chairman of global television studios and president/COO, will assume Vinciquerra’s position on January 2nd. 2025.

Ahuja will report to Sony Group Corporation Chairman/CEO Kenichiro Yoshida and Sony Group Corporation President/COO/CFO Hiroki Totoki.

Under Vinciquerra’s tenure as CEO since 2017, Sony Pictures made the transition to becoming a content distributor across multiple channels, including exclusive pay-1 streaming deals with Netflix and Disney+, among others. He also led the acquisition of anime producer/distributor Crunchyroll in 2021.

More recently, Vinciquerra led SPE through some of the entertainment industry’s most difficult events, such as the COVID-19 epidemic and the combined SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes in 2023, events that brought television and film production to a halt.

“Under Tony’s leadership, SPE has become a critically important part of our efforts to maximize the value of our intellectual property and find synergies across our entertainment and technology businesses, and it remains a key driver in Sony Group’s ongoing corporate strategies to grow stronger “to focus the creative and entertainment spaces,” Yoshida said in a statement.

Yoshida said Ahuja, who joined Sony in 2021, was at the heart of Tony’s leadership team, addressing the “unprecedented” challenges of today’s media and entertainment environment and positioning SPE for further growth.

“Ravi brings years of experience from his time at some of the world’s most successful entertainment companies and we look forward to working more closely with him in his new role,” said Yoshida.

Sony Pictures Television and its production companies produce multiple award-winning and acclaimed television series across countless distribution channels, including The Crown, The Boys, Gen V, Cobra Kai, Better Call Saul and The Last of Us. , “Outlander,” “For All Mankind,” “The Night Agent,” “Twisted Metal,” “The Wheel of Time,” “SWAT,” “The Good Doctor,” “Wheel of Fortune,” “Jeopardy.” !”, “Shark Tank,” “American Idol,” “So You Think You Can Dance,” “90 Day Fiancé,” “Octonauts,” and “SuperKitties,” among others.

Prior to joining SPE, Ahuja was President of Business Operations and CFO of Walt Disney Television. He previously held positions of increasing authority, including CFO at Fox Networks Group and Virgin Entertainment Group.

SPE posted an operating profit of $73 million on revenue of $2.16 billion in its most recent fiscal year, including home entertainment sales of $126 million.
