One person is dead in a hit-and-run crash on I-94 near Brookfield

I-94 westbound at Moorland Road. was completely closed Monday evening due to an accident, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.

In addition to the closure of I-94, the ramp from southbound I-41 to westbound I-94 and the ramp from northbound I-41 to westbound I-94 were also closed.

According to the Wisconsin State Patrol, a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling westbound on the interstate around 4:10 p.m. Monday afternoon when it was struck by another vehicle.

The Jeep crashed into the median wall near Moorland Road and lost control.

Three people were taken to hospital. One person died from their injuries.

Investigators are still looking for the other driver involved.

Carolyn Cobb was driving home from a dance class around 7 p.m. when she ran into traffic. She told us what she observed as she walked back and forth.

“I could see the traffic all the way to the zoo, and then I came back an hour later and thought it was clearing up, but it was still bad,” Cobb said.

TMJ4 broke the news to her that someone had died.

“I feel lucky that I’m OK, but that’s… that’s really hard to hear,” Cobb said. “My thoughts and prayers are also with this person’s family members.”

The Wisconsin State Patrol is the lead agency in the investigation.
