Germany reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic bird flu H5N1 on a farm in eastern Saxony near the border with the Czech Republic, Reuters reported on Monday, citing the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH).

The outbreak killed 76 of 184 birds in the Saxon town of Muldenhammer, Paris-based WOAH said, citing a report from German authorities.

Bird flu can be fatal to poultry and has hit farms worldwide in recent years. Health officials are also grappling with transmission beyond birds, including among dairy cows in the United States.
