3 dead, 15 injured in knife attack in Shanghai

Police said on Tuesday that three people died and 15 others were injured in an attack Knife attack on Monday in a supermarket in Shanghai.
The injured were immediately taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, but despite efforts, three of the victims succumbed to their injuries, the state agency said Xinhua News Agency reported.
Police received a report of the attack and immediately arrested the attacker. It was a 37-year-old man surnamed Lin, as Xinhua reported. Authorities are currently conducting an investigation into the incident.
In early September, a 10-year-old Japanese student was fatally stabbed by an attacker just meters from his school in Shenzhen, a city in southern China.
This incident, along with another knife attack on two Japanese citizens in June in Suzhou, a well-known city in eastern China, has heightened safety concerns among the Japanese community living in China.
Although stabbings are not common in Shanghai, they are not unprecedented.
In 2022, a man carried out a stabbing attack at a major hospital in China’s financial hub, injuring 15 people. Authorities said the man became “angry with society” after an investment failed and was sentenced to death a year later.
There has been an increase in China in recent years public stabbingsThe authorities often attribute the cause to mental illness. Children in schools are often the target of these attacks.
