Three people were killed in a knife attack in Shanghai on the eve of China’s National Day

Three people were killed and 15 injured in an attack Knife attack at a supermarket in Shanghai on Monday evening, just as the country prepares for the National Day holiday week.

All victims were rushed to hospital where three succumbed to their injuries. The remaining injured were not in life-threatening condition, said a statement from Shanghai police on Tuesday morning.

The suspected attacker was identified as a 37-year-old man named Lin, who was arrested shortly after the attack, which took place in the Shanghai suburb of Songjiang.

Police were alerted at 9.47pm and investigations are ongoing.

According to the statement, Lin was motivated by personal financial disputes and traveled to Shanghai to “vent his anger.” Police have not revealed Lin’s place of origin.
