‘A miracle:’ Hundreds of strangers hold a prayer vigil to help a man injured in an accident

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – Hundreds of people gathered in Evansville Monday night to support a family asking for prayers.

A little over a week ago, a car accident left one man dead and another fighting for his life.

A large group gathered outside Deaconess Midtown Hospital to offer prayers and support to Matt Redd’s family. The irony is that many of those in attendance didn’t even know the Redd family.

What they do know is that he was a passenger in a car accident in Illinois that killed his friend Clint Keown.

Due to her husband’s critical condition, Matt Redd’s wife Andrea asked for prayers on social media

This cry for help was answered by a man, Johnny Kincaid, who had never met the family before.

“The most incredibly touching call to prayer I have ever read,” says organizer Johnny Kincaid. “Some of us read it and thought there must be something we can do for this family.”

Kincaid says he called for people to gather outside Matt Redd’s ICU window, but he was surprised to see hundreds of people actually show up.

“The idea of neighbors coming together. “It’s the way we used to do it and it’s a great way to show love to a family that really needs it,” he explains.

Complete strangers gathered Monday evening to sing, pray and raise lights for the Redd family.

Andrea Redd shared an update about her husband with the crowd.

“What’s going on in there is a miracle,” she shared. “I feel it in my body. I feel it through prayer.”

“He responded to some commands today and I even saw him open his left eye today,” added Matt Redd’s brother Jeremy.

While the family still has a long road ahead of them, Jeremy Redd says the love they’ve been shown will give them what they need to move on.

“It gives us the strength to just be positive and celebrate the little victories,” says Jeremy Redd.

The Redd family was visibly moved tonight as vigil organizers asked those who had never met the family to raise their hands.

The vast majority of those present raised their arms.
