The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is seeking witnesses to a 2023 road rage shooting that killed 21-year-old Angel Muniz-Acosta

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — Investigators hope to track down a person who may have witnessed a road rage shooting that killed a young man on November 19, 2023.

The 21-year-old victim, Angel Muniz-Acosta, was walking with his girlfriend in eastern Harris County when the suspect shot her.

Harris County Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives have vehicle descriptions, but no arrests have been made.

The shooting happened in front of a taco truck on Muscatine Street near Freeport.

Detective Abigal Talip has been working on the case for months, focusing entirely on a series of surveillance videos.

Each offers a different perspective on the moments before and after Muniz-Acosta’s assassination.

Muniz-Acosta was sitting in a white pickup truck with his girlfriend, Reina Ruiz, when the shooting occurred.

“When we pulled into Freeport, the taco shop parking lot was full,” Ruiz said.

Ruiz and Muniz-Acosta then walked down Muscatine Street to turn around.

Video surveillance shows an SUV driving behind. Talip tells ABC13 the driver is probably their best witness.

“Now look at the suspect cutting off the witness’s vehicle,” Talip said.

Ruiz and Muniz-Acosta backed up as the suspect’s silver Toyota Camry sped through Muscatine.

She said he stopped abruptly to avoid an accident and may have sworn at the suspect, but his window was open.

“He never cut anyone off, I don’t understand that,” Ruiz said.

Seconds later, the video shows customers scattering as shots are fired. The witness then backs up the SUV and drives away from the crime scene.

“I start screaming, picking him up and cradling him in my arms like that,” Ruiz said.

Muniz-Acosta was shot in the head and died in the hospital a few days later.

Ruiz said they were high school sweethearts. She said Muniz-Acosta was close to becoming a mechanic and was the sole breadwinner for his siblings and his father, who had health problems.

“He had so many dreams, for his family, for him, for me and everything that was ripped away from us,” Ruiz said.

All these months later, Talip is still working day and night to bring some peace to Muniz-Acosta’s family.

“He was the head of his household and his family,” Talip said. “I mean, they have problems.”

ABC13 has now obtained the clearest photo yet of the suspect’s silver Toyota Camry.

Talip also showed us a video from a different angle of the suspect’s car in Freeport. The car apparently wanted to turn right, but then changed course and drove directly behind the witnesses in the dark SUV.

“We’re just trying to push it out as much as possible to see if at some point this person, this witness, sees this and makes that call,” Talip said.

Ruiz said it’s unfair that she has to mourn the love of her life while the killer walks free.

“I just don’t think someone who kills someone like that should be able to live their life,” Ruiz said.

Anyone with information about the suspects and the car used in this incident is asked to call the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit at 713-274-9100. Crime Stoppers may pay up to $5,000 for information leading to the indictment and/or arrest of the suspect(s) in this case.
