The King County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the death of 65-year-old Kyle Dean Gray as a homicide resulting from multiple stab wounds.

Renton police arrested a 19-year-old Renton man on Friday, September 27, in the stabbing death of a 65-year-old handyman at a Renton apartment complex.

King County Superior Court found probable cause in the murder of 19-year-old K’Shawn Konscience Jimerson of Renton at its first hearing on Saturday, September 28.

Investigators are continuing a homicide investigation into the victim’s death as of Monday, Sept. 30, according to Meeghan Black, a spokesman for the Renton Police Department.

The King County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the death of 65-year-old Kyle Dean Gray as a homicide resulting from multiple stab wounds. According to the coroner’s office, Gray suffered his injuries at a residence in Renton.

Renton police arrested Jimerson at the scene in the 3100 block of Northeast 18th Street and charged him with second-degree murder.

According to initial appearance documents, Renton police officers were dispatched around 2:16 p.m. after Jimerson called 911 on Sept. 27 and reported he had “stabbed someone.”

Dispatch further reported to police that “a man stabbed a handyman in the house; Patient is still conscious; “The reporting party will be outside with a knife,” court documents state.

Arriving officers contacted Jimerson outside an apartment unit without a knife and saw blood on him. Inside the unit, officers found Gray lying on the living room floor with knife wounds to his chest and groin. According to the documents, officers and responding paramedics attempted life-saving measures on Gray before Gray died at the scene.

Police arrested Jimerson at the scene.

Neighbors told police they heard arguments and scuffles in the unit before they saw Jimerson standing outside covered in blood and holding a bloody knife, described as a “large butcher knife with a point,” according to documents from the first appearance.

At the time of Jimerson’s initial hearing, police had not yet found the knife used in the stabbing.

King County prosecutors argued for Jimerson to be held at his initial hearing, with the court setting Jimerson’s bond at $50,000. Jimerson has remained in custody since Sept. 30, according to Casey McNerthney, a spokesman for the King County Prosecutor’s Office.

The court set the deadline for quick arraignment on Wednesday, October 2nd. Renton investigators are continuing the homicide investigation, with prosecutors expecting a referral for arraignment to be received by Wednesday.
