‘Piece of trash’: John Kerry criticized for calling First Amendment ‘big bloc’

Former US Secretary of State John Kerry has called the First Amendment a “big block” in the fight against misinformation.

Kerry’s comments came during a panel discussion at the World Economic Forum on green energy on Wednesday.

According to Fox News, toward the end of the panel, Kerry was asked what could be done to combat online misinformation about climate change.

“But look, when people only go to one source and the source they go to is sick and, you know, has an agenda and is spreading disinformation, our First Amendment is a huge barrier to that just, you know , get it out of the world,” he said.

Kerry’s comments were posted on X, where social media users criticized him for appearing to speak out against free speech.

“What a piece of trash! This is exactly why we have the 1st Amendment,” one user wrote.
