A Nicaraguan woman took money from a Miami man to sexually abuse children on camera, police said

MIAMI — A little more than two months after police arrested a Miami man on charges of possessing child sexual abuse material, authorities have arrested his alleged accomplice, police announced Monday.

Miami police say Mara Lujana Blandon Obregon, 50, of Matagalpa, Nicaragua, accepted money from 51-year-old Francisco Ramon Cruz Rodriguez to produce child sexual abuse videos. She is now facing charges in the Central American country.

According to police, the victims were a 16-year-old boy, identified as a relative of Blandon Obregon, and a girl.

Miami police originally arrested Cruz Rodriguez on July 24 at his home in Little Havana. They said they found nearly 500 videos and images containing child sexual abuse material on his electronic devices.

Authorities said the photos and videos showed girls and boys who appeared to be as young as two years old.

According to an arrest report, investigators found several screenshots showing Cruz Rodriguez on a video call with a girl masturbating herself while Cruz Rodriguez appeared to expose himself to her.

Police said they were able to identify one of the victims and traced the source of the video call to Blandon Obregon.

Miami police shared the information with the Nicaragua National Police, who took Blandon Obregon into custody.

She faces sexual exploitation and pornography charges that could land her in prison in Nicaragua for five to seven years, police said.

“Crimes that endanger the well-being of our most vulnerable victims will not be tolerated, and we will remain steadfast in our commitment to ensuring safety and justice for all,” Miami Police Chief Manny Morales said in a statement .

Cruz Rodriguez remains incarcerated at the Metro West Detention Center on multiple felony charges and an immigration hold.
