Springfield boy dies in Sunday night shooting in Peoria

PEORIA (25News Now) – The Peoria County Coroner has identified a 10-year-old boy who died in a shooting in Peoria Sunday night.

On Monday, Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood identified the boy as 10-year-old Lamar Johnson II of Springfield, Illinois.

He said autopsy results showed Johnson suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and likely died within seconds.

Peoria police spokeswoman Semone Roth said a ShotSpotter arrived at the Cityscape Apartments in the 600 block of Romeo B. Garrett Avenue with two shots fired around 7:35 p.m.

There is currently no information on a suspect and the shooting remains under investigation.
