DJ Uiagalelei was eliminated from this weekend’s matchup with Clemson

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) – ESPN reporter Pete Thamel first reported that former Clemson quarterback DJ Uiagalelei will not play on Saturday as his former team travels to Tallahassee, Florida for an ACC matchup on Saturday.

Thamel tweeted: “Sources: Florida State QB DJ Uiagalelei is currently being tested to determine possibilities for a broken finger on his throwing hand that he sustained against SMU. He is expected to be out for the next few weeks, but a clear timetable will follow. “Evaluation.”

DJ Uiagalelei began the season as Florida State’s starting quarterback after transferring from Oregon State. In the first five games of the season, he completed 84 of 156 passes for 1,065 yards. He threw four touchdowns and six interceptions, including three in the Seminoles’ final game, a loss to SMU.

The FSU quarterback left Saturday’s game in the fourth quarter after a pick six and was replaced by redshirt freshman Brock Glenn. Uiagalelei was seen having his throwing hand evaluated by coaches on the sideline.

The Seminoles released the depth chart ahead of Saturday’s matchup with Clemson, which shows Uiagalelei and Glenn as “or” for the starting quarterback. When head coach Mike Norvell was asked about the move during his regular game week press conference, he revealed little.

“DJ has something that we will evaluate throughout the week and see how it goes,” Norvell said. “I thought Brock went in, actually I said it after the game. After the interception and the state of the game, it was decided that I would make the change. Obviously DJU had the injury there too, but just wanted to see an opportunity for Brock to step in and have a chance to run the offense.”

“DJ didn’t finish the game because, one, he couldn’t finish it,” Norvell added. “I said I would use Brock at that moment too, but obviously there is a bit of uncertainty about the status at the moment.”

If Glenn does actually start, it would be his first start of the season. However, he has experience replacing an injured starter, having filled in for the team in the ACC Championship and Orange Bowl last year following a season-ending injury to Jordan Travis.

In his six appearances at FSU, Glenn has completed 19 of 55 passes for 229 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions. He ran 19 times for 22 yards and a score.
