Joe Russo’s Almost Dead cancels Asheville, North Carolina concert and announces benefit streams for disaster relief

As Asheville, North Carolina, struggles to recover from the devastation of Hurricane Helene, the Jam community continues to send support to its hotspot in the Tar Heel State. Among the latest bands to step up to the crisis is Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, who were set to take the stage at the popular Salvage Station for two nights on Friday, October 4th and Saturday, October 5th. The premiere of Grateful The Dead Cover Ensemble has now officially canceled its engagement and will instead present a series of disaster relief webcasts.

Joe Russo’s “Almost Dead” will continue to take the spotlight on Thursday, October 3rd at the Ting Pavilion in Charlottesville, Virginia. This performance will now be accompanied by a pay-per-view benefit webcast so fans can experience the show from home while supporting disaster relief efforts in Asheville. Instead of heading into the city this weekend — facing countless closed streets and risking hindering recovery efforts — the band will continue fundraising through two additional channels; On Friday and Saturday, JRAD will share never-before-seen concert recordings on nugs.net, with proceeds from the streams benefiting the same disaster relief fund.

The band will announce more details about their charity webcasts as the set dates approach. Concluding today’s message, the ensemble writes, “Our condolences go out to everyone in Asheville and surrounding areas devastated by this storm, and we look forward to returning to this incredible community soon.”

Following its Charlottesville performance and streams this weekend, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead will return for a West Coast run October 24-26, hitting the stage at the Fox Theater in Oakland, California for two nights and then the coast storm down to “The Greek” theater in Los Angeles. The band will close out their year as planned with a November series in the Mid-Atlantic and a trio in the Midwest in early December. For tickets and more information, visit joerussosalmostdead.com.

JRAD’s venue for this weekend, Salvage Station, announced its permanent closure at the end of the 2024 season earlier this year. Read more about the venue’s history and the eminent domain claim against it here.
