Former ECU athlete shows off her talent in a competition show

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – An ECU graduate is making progress on The Voice, impressing some celebrities and moving on to the next level.

From the volleyball court to the voice audition, Torre Blake is a woman of many talents.

“I have sung honestly all my life. I sang as a child. When I was 12 years old, I was in the church choir and the only kid in the adult choir,” Blake said.

Torre played on the East Carolina University women’s volleyball team and attended the university from 2012 to 2016.

“I was really excited to sign with ECU, especially because it’s a family school with my dad going there, my uncle playing there around the same time and then my cousin,” Blake said.

About ten years later, Snoop Dogg and Gwen Stefani switched chairs for their blind audition, meaning they both wanted her on their team.

“I can also see it playing in my head in real time, like I’m on stage and then I feel like I’m floating and my dad is on stage and I feel like I’m teaming up.” Me I do not know. It was just really, really cool,” Blake said.

In the end, Torre chose Snoop Dogg, and while he was a fan of Torre, he was also a fan of her father, Jeff Blake, who also went to ECU and is a former NFL quarterback.

“I felt like Snoop was the right choice and my dad agreed too, he was like, ‘No, we’re going with Snoop.'” “Okay, that’s what I wanted at the beginning, but I’m glad that he chose me,” Blake said.

Now Torre Blake is taking the next steps in voice acting as an official member of Snoop Dogg’s team.

While Torre won’t be appearing on the next episode of The Voice, the second part of the blind auditions will air on Monday at 8 p.m.
