Retired judge begins probe into attack case on army captain and fiancée in Odisha capital | India News

BHUBANESWAR: Justice Chitta Ranjan Dasha retired judge of the orissa high court, on monday began his investigation into the alleged attack on an army officer and the sexual assault with his fiancée Bharatpur Police Station in Bhubaneswar on September 15.
The judicial commission headed by Justice Dash was set up by the state government on September 22 following nationwide outrage over it Violence in custody.Dash held a meeting with DGP YB Khurania, ADG Crime Branch Vinaytosh Misra and Home Minister Satyabrata Sahu, among others, before beginning his investigation.
According to the government, the commission’s role is to investigate the details of the alleged torture and sexual assault. The investigation also aims to uncover the facts and circumstances that led to the incident.
“As the investigation continues, the commission will collect evidence, interview witnesses and examine all available documents relating to the case. “The commission will issue a notice on Tuesday seeking affidavits from the parties directly or indirectly involved,” a commission official said.
Sources said people familiar with the incident or who have information on the matter are being asked to submit affidavits. The judicial investigation and the ongoing criminal investigations will run concurrently. On September 15, the alleged torture in Bharatpur custody took place when the Army officer and his fiancée visited the station to lodge a complaint against some people who had allegedly attacked them near Patharagadia following a road rage incident. She alleged that instead of acting on her complaint, her fiancée was beaten up and harassed in police custody.
However, the police dismissed her allegations, saying that she appeared to have been drunk and misbehaved with female officers instead of filing a complaint. Police also alleged the woman was uncooperative and refused to submit to a breathalyzer test. She was subsequently arrested for assault and computer damage.
In a related development, five suspended employees, including former senior inspector of Bharatpur police station Dinakrushna Mishra, were subjected to a lie detector test at the forensic science laboratory in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, on Monday. Mishra will also undergo brain mapping and narcoanalysis.
