Santa Barbara police in a late-night standoff with man who barricaded himself in apartment on Salsipuedes Street

Santa Barbara Police SWAT and Crisis Negotiation Response teams are responding to an apartment complex in the 500 block of North Salsipuedes Street, where a man has been barricaded in an apartment since Sunday night.

According to Sergeant Ethan Ragsdale, police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at the residence around 8:30 p.m. Sunday. During the initial investigation, the male suspect barricaded himself in the apartment and refused to surrender to the police. Before the suspect barricaded himself in the apartment, the female victim was able to escape and is now safe.

Police are asking the public to avoid the area as the individual case is still developing and under investigation. However, there is currently no danger to surrounding homes and schools, according to the police.
