New Delhi: The miscommunication between Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant could have resulted in Kohli scoring an important wicket in India’s second Test against Bangladesh at Green Park in Kanpur. During the third session of Day 4, Virat came into the middle to bat at number 5 after Shakib Al Hassan secured the wicket of Shubman Gill.

After skipper Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal ensured a fiery start to India’s innings, Rishabh Pant moved up to number 4. Kohli was sent to number 5. The 35-year-old batsman did not have the desired results in the Chepauk Test after failing to score big in both innings of the opening Test.

Kohli could have easily been run out in the first over of the 19th over but he had luck in his favour. Kohli tapped a slower shot from Khaled Ahmed and ran for a single. Pant initially reacted before sending Kohli back.

Kohli didn’t make it back to the striker’s end but Khaled missed the chance and missed the stumps while trying to clear the pads.

Kohli seemed irritated at first but then hugged Pant. Kohli was at two runs when he just managed to save himself from dismissal. So far, India appeared to be in a strong leadership position as they comfortably reached 147 for three in 18.1 overs.

After Bangladesh were bowled out for 233, Rohit and Jaiswal opened with the first wicket and added 55 runs in just 3.5 overs. Rohit fell for 23 but the innings gained momentum with the brilliance of Jaiswal as he hit 72 off 51 balls, including 12 fours and two sixes.

Hasan Mahmud secured Jaiswal’s wicket but Shumbman Gil kept the momentum going with his 39 runs off 36 deliveries. Rishabh Pant fell short of expectations as he managed nine runs off 11 balls.
