Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian accident in Anne Arundel County

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian accident Sunday evening in Anne Arundel County.

The pedestrian, a 32-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene by Anne Arundel County Emergency Medical Services personnel. The identity of the deceased will be kept secret until next of kin are notified.

Officers from the Annapolis Barracks responded to a report of an accident on Solomons Island Road northbound at Route 50 shortly after 7:30 p.m. on September 29, 2024. A preliminary investigation indicates it involved an unmarked Ford Explorer from the 2016 Maryland State Police were traveling north on Solomons Island Road when they struck a pedestrian who unexpectedly strayed onto the roadway. There is no zebra crossing at the crash site.

The driver, a Maryland State Police trooper, immediately administered first aid to the pedestrian and requested additional assistance. The police officer was not injured in the accident.

The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration assisted with road closures. The cause of the accident is being investigated by the Maryland State Police Crash Team. Once the investigation is complete, it will be presented to the Anne Arundel County District Attorney’s Office. Maryland State Police will also conduct a protocol administrative review of the case.
