73-year-old woman died after being hit by a train

A 73-year-old woman has died after being hit by a train on Sunday.

According to a Richmond police spokesman, at 12:41 p.m., officers and paramedics responded to the Norfolk Southern Railway crossing near North 12th Street and “E” Street in Richmond, Indiana, to reports of a person being run off a Norfolk Southern train was hit.

Upon arrival, they found the victim, identified as Carolyn Rose, 73. Paramedics transported her to Reid Health, where she died from her injuries.

“We are heartbroken by this devastating loss,” said Richmond Police Chief Kyle Weatherly. “MS. Rose was a member of our community and this tragedy is deeply felt by all of us. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family as they navigate this incredibly difficult time.”

Preliminary findings indicate that Rose walked directly into the train tracks for unknown reasons and no crime is currently suspected, the spokesman said.

The crash is still under investigation.
