Aerosmith’s Tom Hamilton announces first show with new band

Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton has shared details of his first performances with a new band called Close Enemies.

News of the new band comes as Aerosmith confirmed their touring days were immediately over after frontman Steven Tyler suffered a serious vocal injury during a gig.

While the ’80s icons appear to have put everything on hold, Hamilton has confirmed details about his latest project on X/Twitter – including information about their first live show.

“Hey, I have to tell you about a band I play with called Close Enemies. We recorded a lot of good songs. We will be releasing one soon,” he wrote. “In the meantime, we’re doing a show in Nashville on October 11th at a place called the Eastside Bowl. Please come!”

The rest of the Close Enemies line-up consists of drummer Tony Brock, vocalist Chasen Hampton and guitarists Peter Stroud and Trace Foster.

The drummer was a founding member of the English band The Babys and has also worked with Elton John, Rod Stewart and others. Foster was Hamilton’s bass engineer in Aerosmith, and Stroud has previously worked with names like Sheryl Crow and Don Henley (via Louder).

Aerosmith’s last live show ever took place last September at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, and no one – including the band themselves – knew it would be their last

It was part of their Peace Out tour, which began last year but only saw the band play three nights before postponing the remaining dates after Tyler injured his larynx.

Earlier this summer, Hamilton spoke more about the future of the ’80s icons, confirming that he “doesn’t know what the future holds for Steven Tyler and company,” and also hinted at his current band.

“The decision was made by the team, which includes the band and our dedicated management… We don’t know what the future holds, but touring will not be part of it,” he said in an interview with Charlie Kendall’s Metal Shop.

He was also asked if the band would consider touring with a replacement singer in the future – an idea he soon dismissed. “There were no discussions at all about going on tour with another singer. I can’t imagine it,” he said.

“I’m sure we’ll all have music in the future, and it will manifest itself in ways we haven’t yet planned. I played in a band with some good friends. We have a lot of really good songs and we’re hoping to get them out soon and hopefully do some gigs.”

He also spoke with Guitar world earlier this month about his plans for the future. “As far as career goes, I refuse to think about it,” he began. “There are a lot of things we could do in the future. We’ll just have to wait and see when we get out of reaction mode and back into creative mode. I’m going through a phase now where I feel my game taking a step up. Inspiration is always just around the corner.”

Following the announcement that Aerosmith’s touring days were over, numerous famous faces expressed their sadness at the news. Queen guitarist Brian May, for example, said the announcement “brought a tear to his eye,” while Sammy Hagar told members his long story and called the resignation “a big fucking loss.”

It was later confirmed that fans could watch the band’s final performance on YouTube in 4K quality.

Aerosmith’s last studio album came out over a decade ago, when the band released Music From Another Dimension! in 2012. Steven Tyler’s last studio album was released in 2016 in the form of a debut solo LP entitled “We’re All Somebody from Somewhere”.
