Ukraine repelled a massive missile and drone attack overnight, shooting down 67 drones fired

Early on Monday morning, September 30, Russian forces launched another wave of drone strikes on Ukrainian cities, with the main target being the capital.

An air raid alarm was sounded in Kiev around 1 a.m. and lasted for more than five hours. Local officials, including the head of Kiev’s military administration, Serhiy Popko, urged citizens to seek shelter.

The Ukrainian Air Force tracked a total of 76 air objects, including an Iskander-M ballistic missile from occupied Crimea, an X-59/69 guided missile over the Zaporizhzhia region and an X-31P radar missile over the Black Sea and 73 Shahed attack drones were launched from the Russian regions of Kursk, Yeisk and Oryol.

In total, Ukraine’s air defense units managed to shoot down one X-59/69 missile and 67 Shahed drones in the Kyiv, Cherkasy, Vinnytsia, Kirovohrad, Zhytomyr, Poltava, Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk and Mykolaiv regions.

In addition, one drone flew towards Belarus and three others were lost to electronic warfare countermeasures over northern Ukraine.

At around 5 a.m., Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported on the ongoing defense work in the capital, especially in the Obolon district. A few hours later, he reported that drone debris fell near the home in Obolon district and all emergency services responded to the incident.
