Ananya Panday talks about deepfake videos

Yas Island: Actress Ananya Panday, whose upcoming film CTRL takes a look into the world of artificial intelligence (AI), says government agencies need to make certain regulations to prevent misuse of technology.

Recently, top film stars like Aamir Khan, Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt and Rashmika Mandanna became victims of deepfake videos.

In the trailer of ‘CTRL’, Panday’s character asks an AI app to ‘erase’ her lover Joe (Vihaan Samat) from her life after she catches him cheating on her.

“It’s very scary. As public figures, our faces and voices are out there. (So) I don’t know how much we can protect. I think it has to be done through government regulations, that’s probably the only solution.” Panda told PTI in a media group interaction on the green carpet of IIFA Awards 2024 when asked about deepfake videos of celebrities.

Deepfake is a digital method that allows users to convincingly replace the likeness of one person with that of another using AI technology.

Produced by Saffron and Andolan Films, “CTRL” will stream on Netflix from October 4th. Directed by Vikramaditya Motwane.

Panday, one of the performers at the IIFA Awards 2024, said she was both excited and nervous about her stage performance.

“Last year, it was my very first stage performance at IIFA, so I was very nervous. This time I was nervous too, but I had more fun. I danced to some of my favorite songs like ‘Jhumka’ (from ‘Rocky’ Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’).

“Before I went on stage to perform, I thought, ‘I can’t wait for it to be over.’ But when it was over I thought, ‘I want to do it again’. “There’s nothing that’s comparable to the hustle and bustle on stage,” she said.
