The family and community mourn the tragic loss of the young mother

A domestic incident ended tragically on Friday evening when a local mother of five was stabbed.

Simi Valley police said officers responded to the 800 block of California Avenue around 6 p.m. after a girl called 911 to report that her mother had been stabbed by her live-in boyfriend.

The victim, who authorities identified as Jessica Tinoco, 34, suffered multiple stab wounds to the face, chest and stomach. She was transported to the hospital where she died from her injuries.

The suspect, who police identified as 34-year-old Raymond Rivas, was arrested at the scene and booked into the Ventura County Jail on suspicion of murder.

Inmate records show Rivas is being held on $595,000 bond but is ineligible for release.

SVPD said Rivas was placed on hold for a probation violation because he was under community supervision at the time of the fatal incident.

Rivas is scheduled to appear in court on October 1.

Sergeant. Richard Morton said the children were at home when the argument began, but he wasn’t sure how many of them witnessed the stabbing.

The suspect is not related to the children. He was arrested as he came out the front door, Morton said.

Paramedics were immediately allowed into the home to provide life-saving measures to Tinoco. Due to the severity of her injuries, the victim was immediately taken to the hospital, Morton said.

Friends and relatives of Tinoco expressed shock and sadness on social media, and some also asked what they can do to help the children during this difficult time.

Those who knew her said Tinoco was an attentive and loving mother and a good person.

A candlelight vigil in Tinoco’s honor to raise awareness about domestic violence will be held on Monday, September 30, at 7 p.m. Participants are asked to wear purple. The vigil will be held at Pier 559, E. Surfside Drive in Port Hueneme.
