Three people die in accidents in El Paso within a week

El Paso police responded to three unrelated fatal crashes in a week and are searching for a hit-and-run driver who was involved in one of the crashes, authorities said.

The accidents occurred between Sept. 18 and Sept. 24 in various areas of the city, El Paso Police Department officials said. The unrelated accidents killed a 19-year-old man, a 34-year-old man and a 39-year-old man.

The deaths are the 45th, 46th and 47th traffic-related deaths of 2024. There were 55 traffic-related deaths at this time last year.

Police looking for hit-and-run driver in Lower Valley crash

Emmanuel Torres, 34, of El Paso, was crossing the street in the 7200 block of Alameda Avenue around 7:25 p.m. on Sept. 24 when he was struck by a 2014 Nissan Titan driven by a 55-year-old man, officials said .

The collision caused Torres to fall to the ground and was struck by a pickup truck. The pickup truck fled the scene of the accident. Torres died at the scene of the accident.

Anyone with information about the fatal crash or the pickup’s whereabouts is asked to call El Paso police at 915-832-4400 or submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers of El Paso at 915-566-8477.

New Mexico resident killed in motorcycle crash near Lincoln Park

Alex Cole Bustamante, 39, of Santa Teresa, New Mexico, was driving a 2013 Harley Davidson in the 4400 block of Gateway East Boulevard near Lincoln Park in downtown on Sunday, September 22, at approximately 6:30 p.m El Paso, officials said.

Bustamante was allegedly driving the motorcycle at a high rate of speed behind a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe. The driver of the Tahoe moved into the right lane “to avoid being hit by the motorcycle,” police said. However, the motorcycle struck the rear left corner of the Tahoe.

The collision threw Bustamante from his motorcycle. He was taken to a hospital where he later died.

There were five people in the Tahoe at the time of the accident, including a four-year-old girl and a one-year-old girl in car seats. No one was injured in the Tahoe.

Police believe Bustamante’s speeding on his motorcycle contributed to the accident, officials said.

Motorcyclist dies in crash in East El Paso

Hugo Alexis Montiel-Sanchez, 19, of El Paso, was driving a 2023 Honda motorcycle in the 9200 block of Gateway East Boulevard on Sept. 18 around 8:50 p.m., police officials said.

Montiel-Sanchez accelerated “for unknown reasons” and continued driving at a high rate of speed, officials said. He drove the motorcycle off the left side of the road and began to ride along the side of the road through the countryside.

He was thrown from the motorcycle and suffered serious injuries. He was taken to a hospital where he later died, officials said.

Police believe Montiel-Sanchez’s speeding on the motorcycle was the primary cause of the fatal crash, officials said.
