UNLV Rebels wide receiver makes hilarious plea after QB drama

The UNLV Rebels found themselves at the center of a college football media frenzy this week after quarterback Matthew Sluka decided to leave the program midseason due to NIL-related issues.

It’s been a week of back and forth between Sluka’s representation and the UNLV NIL collective, with Sluka’s side claiming he was promised $100,000 and only given $3,000, a promise that both the school and the Collectively denied ever having entered into. In reality, it appeared that a verbal agreement was reached without a contract and neither side looked great.

Things took another interesting turn when the CEO of Circa Sports called the school and offered to pay the $100,000 to Sluka himself, but the school told the sports betting giant that the relationship had already been severed. With Sluka and the team’s fate essentially sealed this week, the Rebels went forward with Hajj-Malik Williams at quarterback and demolished Fresno State to move to 4-0 behind three touchdown passes from Williams and the team’s 250 rushing yards to come. UNLV star receiver Ricky White III took the opportunity after the win to tell Circa to send the $100,000 offer to the team’s offensive line after their strong play.

“Please I would ask someone to contact the CEO of Circa and ask him to please give the $100,000 that he wanted to donate to our O-Line,” White III said. “You did a great job tonight please.”

After the Rebels’ 59-14 win, Rebels head coach Barry Odom addressed the situation once and for all, essentially stating that the school followed all the rules and people commented on it without all the facts know. Going forward, this will likely continue to be a storyline, but UNLV has clearly already begun to move on and the team is focused on the ultimate goal of winning football games.

The Rebels, still ranked No. 25 in the AP poll, will host Syracuse in a Friday night non-conference game next week as they try to get to 5-0 on the season and continue to do so after Williams’ solid start to make comfortable in victory last weekend.
