1 was killed in an early morning shootout on a highway

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – Investigators with the Baton Rouge Police Department Homicide Unit are investigating a shooting that occurred early Sunday morning, September 29th.

According to authorities, shots were fired near the I-10/I-12 divide around 2:50 a.m. Officials said an SUV was traveling westbound when shots were fired from a fleeing vehicle. The SUV then crashed into a truck traveling in the same direction and flipped onto its side after both vehicles hit the retaining wall.

The driver of the SUV, Erik Dorsey, 22, was pronounced dead at the scene from gunshot wounds. Several other people were taken to a local hospital for their injuries from the accident. According to authorities, only Dorsey suffered gunshot wounds.

This is an ongoing investigation. No further information is currently available.
