Sherman Police prepare for National Night Out

SHERMAN, Texas (KXII) – The Sherman Police Department is preparing for National Night Out on Tuesday.

Each year, departments throughout the community participate to build stronger relationships with the residents they serve.

“Through history and a lot of research and evidence, we’ve found that when citizens get involved and help us solve crimes in the community, things are safer because we’re able to solve a lot more,” Lt. Samuel Boyle of the Sherman Police Department.

National Night Out is one of SPD’s ways to increase the number of positive interactions with the community.

This year, Sherman PD, Austin College PD and Sherman ISD PD will host the event outside of the community building.

“We’ll all be there to get to know everyone, talk about what our different areas are doing and provide people with information but also cool merchandise and giveaways and free food,” Boyle said.

There will be free food and snow cones, plus mascot wrestling, merchandise giveaways and a motorcycle rodeo.

“We are trying to land a helicopter, weather and operations permitting,” Boyle said.

The event lasts from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m
