The Rings of Power just gave us one of the best TV episodes of 2024

The Rings of Power had basically driven the entire prequel series up to this moment. In particular, it’s about the siege of Eregion, which is the focus of the penultimate episode of the new season. It’s a bloody and epic battle so well executed that it rivals Peter Jackson’s in quality and scale Lord of the rings films; The clash, a pivotal moment in Tolkien’s story, has also never been depicted on screen before.

In terms of scope and production quality, the confrontation rivaled the Battle of Helm’s Deep in the Two towers Film. We’re talking thousands of orcs and elves hacking and slashing, massive explosions, a mountain troll, a breathtaking attack on Calvary – it was breathtaking to watch this battle unfold, affecting not only the topography of Middle-earth and its key players now changed. The Rings of Power really took us all over Middle-earth in the show’s second season, from Eregion to Khazad-dûm, Lindon, Númenor, Mordor and so many points in between. Sauron returns and sets about convincing Celebrimbor to create rings of power at his Eregion forge. Rings that can then be given to various leaders who Sauron can then control via his one ring that rules them all.

As much as I enjoyed the new season, I admit that the writing still made me groan a little here and there. There are times, for example, when Elrond suggests a certain course of action based on known facts, and Galadriel (who was portrayed as a complete asshole in Season 1) blathers on about how we have to pursue this strange alternative choice because she “feels it in her.” Hearts” or some such nonsense.

However, for me, the positive aspects of this season definitely outweigh the weaknesses. Watching Isildur fight his way out of the spider cave was truly terrifying. Likewise, watch as Sauron’s evil black slime devours everything in its path so that the Dark Lord can reappear in human form. The costumes, the weapons, the sets – it all adds up to a fantastically produced show that is so damn captivating to watch.
