John Kruk scares a child near the Phillies stand while Tom McCarthy freaks out

The 2024 Major League Baseball season is coming to an end, but not before Philadelphia Phillies analyst John Kruk gives us another iconic moment.

In the bottom of the 4th inning of Sunday’s game against the Washington Nationals, Kruk got tired of listening to a kid in the booth next to where he and announcer Tom McCarthy were calling the game.

“I’m going to talk to this kid,” he said. “I have nothing else to do.”

“See if you can scare him,” McCarthy added, a request Kruk complied with by shouting “HEY!” towards their neighbors. NBC Sports Philadelphia’s cameras captured the interaction, with the boy immediately whipping his head around to see who just yelled at him.

Then McCarthy completely lost his composure.

After a brief return to the action on the field, cameras showed the boy trying to see what Kruk and McCarthy were doing as the announcer continued to laugh.

“You scared him,” McCarthy said. “You scared the poor kid. Look, he’s looking over…”

McCarthy did his best to restart the action, but the boy eventually caught their attention.

“There he is, John,” McCarthy said as Kruk and the boy waved to each other before the Phillies announcer gave him a thumbs up, signaling their detente measures were over.

“They are making amends,” McCarthy added.
