Mariah Carey’s sister’s tragic final days were revealed in heartbreaking detail as she failed to fulfill her father’s final wish

On his deathbed in 2002, Mariah Carey’s father Alfred Roy had one wish: that the singing superstar would see her “ex” sister Alison again.

Twenty-two years later and despite years of effort, Alison tragically took her last breath at the age of 63, without ever fulfilling her father’s poignant final request.

She died shortly after midnight with her only friend and companion, David Baker, at her side after weeks of being cared for by a hospice team at home in her small apartment in Coxsackie, New York, in late August.

“Two days earlier I told her that I would never forget her, that I loved her and that she would always have a place in my heart,” David told The US Sun.

“In a barely audible voice she said, ‘I love you.’

“Those were her last words. The next morning she stopped responding at all. She died two days later.”

By a bizarre coincidence, Alison died on the same day as her estranged mother Patricia, who she had previously accused in a lawsuit of taking her to satanic meetings and allowing her to be sexually abused.

Mariah released a public statement expressing how heartbroken she was over the deaths of her mother and sister.

But David doubts the star’s sincerity and says she could have at least called or video-called her sister.

“Mariah has now forever rejected the final wishes of both her father and her sister,” he said.

In Mariah’s 2020 book, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, the star admitted that her father’s “final wish was that my ex-sister Alison and I would talk again.”

Alison often spoke of being “let down” by Mariah.

When she learned that her organs were failing and she was dying, she reached out to David and asked him to try to contact her estranged sister.

David didn’t have a number for Mariah, but he tried everything to let the star know her sister’s life was nearing an end.

He informed Alison’s children of the situation, knowing that at least one of the four was close to Mariah and could pass on the news.

He then took to social media to get Mariah’s attention – but still failed.

“On August 3rd – after Alison was in home hospice care and knew she was dying – she told me she wanted to talk to Mariah before it was too late,” David said.

“I told her I don’t have a phone number for her sister, but there might still be a way to message her.”

“In a barely audible voice [Alison] said, “I love you.” Those were her last words.

On August 3, he tweeted: “A sad end to a tragic life. @mariahcarey’s ‘ex’ sister now receiving home hospice care.”

“The tag would have alerted her to the tweet and given her the opportunity to respond. But there was no answer.”

The tweet received one repost and three likes.

“Mariah says she is heartbroken because she lost her sister,” he said.

“Alison was also sad about not being able to connect with Mariah as her life was about to end.”

Alison’s unresolved past

Alison had led a troubled and turbulent life, marked by drug addiction, homelessness, health problems, sexual abuse and violence.

In 2018, Alison gave a powerful interview with The Sun with David at her side, in which she discussed surviving an arson attack and claimed she was taken to occult meetings as a child and sexually abused by disguised believers.

Despite her traumatic life experiences, Alison remained “an extremely intelligent and sensitive soul” and was nothing like the “unfortunate drug addict” people thought she was, David said.

Although David has spent the last nine years by Alison’s side, he has not been told whether the family has held a funeral or memorial service for her or whether they plan to do so.

I told her that I would never forget her, that I loved her and that she would always have a place in my heart.

He believes she was cremated – but no one has told him for sure – and he has no idea where her final resting place might be.

“It is now clear that after nine years with Alison, I will never know what happened to her remains and when – or even if – there will be any kind of memorial service for her,” he said.

“The last time I saw her was shortly after she died. A funeral director removed her from her bed and placed her in a body bag. He zipped it up and she was gone.”

He said he felt he was being treated cruelly after years of supporting Alison through her complicated health issues – even buying her clothes and paying rent where necessary.

END OF LIFE

And he was her rock in her final days, advocating for her health and spending hours at her bedside.

“Every time she was admitted to the hospital, I would get calls from her telling me in a loud, urgent whisper, ‘I can’t take it! Get me out of here!” David wrote on his blog “The Carey File,” dedicated to Alison.

“This didn’t help her recovery or the nurses who responded to her frequent pressing of the call button: they were happy when I arrived because, they said, Alison would be calm when I was there.

“So I spent as much time with her as possible during each of her hospital stays. And although we didn’t know it until shortly before she was released after a short stay at the end of July, she was at the end of her life.

“She went home to her apartment for hospice care and died there three weeks later.”

Mariah Carey’s statement after losing her mother and sister

On August 26, 2024, Mariah Carey revealed to People that her mother Patricia and sister Alison died on the same day.

“It breaks my heart that I lost my mother this past weekend,” she began.

“Unfortunately, my sister passed away on the same day in a tragic turn of events.

“I feel blessed to have been able to spend the last week with my mother before she died.”

“I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time,” she concluded.

MISSED OPPORTUNITIES

David says Mariah’s refusal to reconnect with Alison before her death wasn’t the first time the star ignored her sister when she was in a life-threatening situation.

“The first time was in 2015 when Alison was put on life support following emergency surgery to stop a brain bleed after she was hit in the back of the head with a baseball bat and left to die during a break-in at her Long Street flat Island,” David wrote.

“Several members of her family – including her brother Morgan, who flew from his home in Hawaii – visited Alison at a hospital in Albany, NY

Mariah wasn’t one of them.

“The second time was in June 2021 after Alison had to undergo emergency surgery overnight for a perforated intestinal ulcer. The surgeon gave her no more than a 50 percent chance of survival, but after six weeks of two powerful antibiotics to beat the sepsis, she went home.

“Again, Mariah didn’t come by or call.

“Now, in 2024, there was a third time that the chance of survival was not 50 percent; it was at zero and there was one last opportunity to fulfill Alison’s long-standing wish.”

David added emphatically, “There won’t be a fourth time.”

FAMILY FEUD

Mariah has not responded to requests for comment from The US Sun, but she has spoken openly about her strained relationship with Alison and her brother Morgan in her controversial memoir.

In the book, she made several claims about her siblings, saying it was “emotionally and physically safer for me not to have contact” with them.

The singer claimed her siblings were “selling lies” to the press.

She also claimed in the book that Alison drugged her with Valium and sexed her up – a claim Alison vehemently denied until her death.

Both Alison and Morgan filed lawsuits against their sister following the book’s publication.

Morgan’s lawsuit is ongoing, and this month a judge ordered depositions from both parties to take place by January 2025.

It’s unclear what happened to Alison’s lawsuit.
