East Tennessee K-9 officer found dead after going missing following flooding

ERWIN, Tenn. (WVLT) – An East Tennessee police department said one of its K-9 officers was found dead after he went missing following historic flooding.

Erwin police said K-9 Scotty went missing during Friday’s flooding in the Bumpass Cove area, about four miles west of Erwin.

Unfortunately, the department said he was later found dead.

“Please pray for his caregiver and all who loved him,” EPD said.

Unicoi County, of which Erwin is the county seat, faced devastating flooding that left dozens of people missing.

The flooding also resulted in more than 50 people being rescued from the roof of Unicoi County Hospital after they became trapped on Friday.
