Student calls VC of Deeper Life University about sexual assault in hostel

In a series of posts about her X In a report dated Saturday, September 28, 2024, Ganiyu detailed what happened between her and Bandele after she reported to Bandele that she had been sexually abused at her hostel.

According to her story, the university is currently undergoing renovations and dormitory conversions to accommodate more students, so casual workers have been hired on the site.

However, one of the workers allegedly sneaked into Ganiyu’s room overnight and when she woke up, he was lying on her bed almost naked.

“Today I woke up and felt the weight of someone next to me. I thought it was my boyfriend who slept with me. But that wasn’t the case.”

The person in this photo, who calls himself Uche Okoro, was lying in bed next to me, almost completely naked, with his shorts hanging so low on his body that I could see his butt. I stood up and yelled for him to leave my room. Then I went to my porter who reported to the supervisor.” she wrote.

The supervisor later lined up the workers and called the student to identify the perpetrator among them, which she did, but Okoro denied ever doing such a thing.

“I insisted he was the one and he kept denying it.

“It was only when another student he had observed in the bathroom that morning came and identified him as the perpetrator that he began to plead and say he was sorry. The people around him beat him lightly” she explained.

Ganiyu said everyone present, including the porters, asked her to forgive the boy, claiming he was under the influence of alcohol, but she called her father to inform him.

However, things took a different turn when she reported the incident to the VC.

Ganiyu said instead of sympathizing with her and investigating the matter, Bandele accused her of being shady after asking her a few questions.

“My manager then took me to the Vice Chancellor’s (PROFESSOR Samuel Oye Bandele) office to explain the situation. I told him what had happened. He then asked me the following questions: “Were you dressed?” “Were you in your underwear?”, to which I answered yes and yes.

“He then asked me how old I was. I told him. Then he said that I was not a two-year-old girl and said how can I not know whether a man penetrated me or not.”

Then he says that I’m a bad girl, that I’m being economical with the truth, and that I should get tested (by a male doctor, by the way) because I’m shady. she added.

The student said her experience was not the first as the school administration continually tried to cover up reports of sexual assault on students by pressuring them into submission.

“Please listen to me. This is not the first time something like this has happened in this school, where a student is mistreated and the school tries to cover it up by shaming her or telling her to forgive and forget.

“I have had several bad experiences at this school and have never received justice. Please don’t let something like this happen again. Please hold Anchor University accountable for the multiple forms of discrimination against its female students.”“she said.
