The Black Titanium Apple Watch Ultra 2 looks extremely sharp

A year after rumors of its release, Apple has relented and given those looking for a darker, more aggressive Apple Watch Ultra 2 exactly what they were looking for. The black version is eye-catching and adding another option to the Ultra range is sure to attract more people who usually wear dark watches from competitors like Garmin.

I only wore my review unit a little, as I spent most of my time testing the new Apple Watch Series 10 (also in a unique jet black color), but there’s something about the darker color that makes it feels like a fun gadget. Compared to the Natural Titanium version I usually wear, I feel a little less Bond and a little more Batman, but when I put it on and sneak out into the night for a run, I still feel just as powerful as back when I reviewed the original Apple Watch Ultra 2. It’s a good feeling.

The new Black Ultra 2 looks pretty sharp.

I don’t have the new Black Titanium Milanese loop band, but I tried it out when I was at the Apple campus for the product launch and it was beautiful. It’s lighter than expected, and the way the company sanded down the interlocking links to make it flatter gives it a truly stunning vibe in motion. It reminded me of rippling water on a pond, which I didn’t expect from a black bracelet, but the way the light hits it really makes it pop. This strap is also made from 85 percent recycled titanium, making it one of the few climate-neutral watch straps from Apple.

Although I’ve seen a lot of people on the internet wondering if the new paint will cause more scratches, I found a video on the channel Chase the summit He dropped the watch on stone a few times and seemed really impressed with the durability of the new finish. It’s not perfect, but if you don’t scratch it particularly badly, the new diamond-like PVD coating should do a good job of keeping the raw titanium underneath from showing through.

Overall, as a reviewer, I’m pretty happy that Apple only announced one new color this year. There’s always a lot to cover at Apple events, and with the Apple Watch in particular, it’s difficult to pack in enough upgrades to make the new watch stand out year after year. The Series 10 did a good job this year with its redesign and new features, but if Apple switched both watches to a biennial cycle, I wouldn’t complain.
