Double shooting in Bronx kills man, second victim injured: police

A double shooting in the Bronx on Sunday morning left one man dead and another hospitalized with injuries, police said.

The gun violence erupted around 1:07 a.m. Sept. 29 outside a Morris Ave. residence. 2693 in Kingsbridge Heights.

officers of the 52nd DistrictWhile responding to a 911 call about a man shot, she found two victims on scene: Alvin Ortiz, 33, of Newburgh, who was shot in the left arm and chest; and a 36-year-old man who suffered gunshot wounds to his left arm and wrist.

EMS took both wounded men to St. Barnabas Hospital, where Ortiz was pronounced dead a short time later. Meanwhile, the 36-year-old male victim remains in hospital in stable condition.

The police have not yet provided any information about a possible motive or a description of the possible suspect. So far there have been no arrests as part of the ongoing investigation, police said.

According to the most recent CompStat report, the 52nd Precinct reported eight homicides year-to-date through Sept. 22; That’s one less than the total number of homicides reported at the same time in 2023. However, the number of shootings has increased 54.5% this year, with 17 shootings resulting in 31 injuries, compared to 11 shootings and 14 injuries last year.
