New Tehri:

A man-eating leopard killed a three-year-old child after picking him up outside his home while he was playing with his cousins. Officials said his mutilated body was found in bushes nearby.

The officials said the incident took place around 5 pm in Purwal village when Ankit Kumar’s son Raj Kumar was playing with his maternal uncle’s children in the courtyard of the house.

Tehri Forest Division Bhilangana Range Officer Ashish Nautiyal and Purwal village head Sanjay Tiwari said the child got out while playing and went behind the house where a leopard was already in ambush.

The animal picked up the child and dragged him away.

Manju Devi didn’t find her son in the house and went looking for him. Later, her neighbors also gathered there, but the child could not be found.

Meanwhile, someone noticed bloodstains on the street behind the house.

The blood stains led people to the bushes from where the child’s mutilated body was recovered, officials said.
