Steelers rule out running back Jaylen Warren against Colts

PITTSBURGH – The Steelers will be without Jaylen Warren against the Indianapolis Colts as the running back recovers from a knee injury suffered in the Week 3 win over the Los Angeles Chargers. Warren did not participate in practice all week and was out Friday.

With Warren sidelined, the bulk of the carries will return to running back Najee Harris, who had 18 carries for 70 yards on 38 snaps against the Chargers. Warren, whom coach Mike Tomlin took out of the game when he noticed Warren wasn’t moving smoothly, played just 22 offensive snaps.

While Harris will be the Steelers’ primary defender, the team will also likely use versatile offensive threat Cordarrelle Patterson as a backup. Patterson, a 12-year veteran who signed with the Steelers in the offseason as a kick returner, played 22 snaps against the Chargers and had four rushing attempts for 33 yards and three catches on five targets for 15 yards.

“Whenever my number is called, I’m ready,” Patterson said. “No matter where it was on the field, I had to play wide receiver, running back, whatever. Man, I’m just happy to be here.”
