Bus accident: Tragic bus accident in Maihar district claims 9 lives and 20 injuries | Bhopal News

Bhopal: Nine people, including a two-year-old child, were killed and 20 others injured when the bus they were traveling in rammed into a stationary truck parked on the highway Maihar district of Madhya Pradesh late on Saturday.
The injured were initially taken to Maihar and Amarpatan hospitals, from where eight were referred to the Satna district hospital. The condition of the injured is said to be stable.
There were 45 passengers on board the bus, which was traveling from Prayagraj to Nagpur via Rewa. It struck a truck parked near a restaurant on the highway. The truck’s parking lights were not on, so the bus driver may not have noticed him.
The force of the collision was so severe that the bus was completely damaged and several passengers were trapped in the bus. JCB and gas cutting machines were used to free the trapped passengers.
The deceased have been identified as Devansh Sahu, 2, Ram Naresh Gautam, 64, Ambika Prasad, 55, all residents of Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh, Vishwa Prakash, 38, Dheeraj Kumar, 40, Lallu Yadav, 60, all residents of Pratapgarh in Uttar Pradesh Pradesh, Pranjal Vishwakarma, 18, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, and two people aged 40 and 35 who are yet to be identified.
“Everything happened in a split second. My brother-in-law Deepak Gupta, who was on the bus, sustained injuries and is fortunately safe now “The window seat was thrown out of the bus. He told me that the bus driver was sleeping while the bus was traveling at over 100 km per hour,” Ritesh Gupta, assistant manager at SBI Rewa, told TOI.
Police have suspended the drivers of both vehicles. However, the driver of the bus, who is said to have suffered injuries, has not yet been identified among the injured.
“The drivers of both vehicles were suspended. The driver of the bus is also said to have suffered injuries, but his identity is not yet known. The condition of the injured is currently stable, doctors said. Of the deceased, five bodies were handed over to their relatives,” SP Maihar Sudhir Agarwal told TOI.
He added: “Prima facie it appears that the bus driver was driving recklessly which led to the incident.”
