The three-part series was adapted from John Lanchester’s novel and follows residents of a street in south London.

Every house on the street is worth around £2 million, but mysterious postcards keep ending up through people’s doors.

“We want what you have” is written on the postcards.

Toby plays wealthy banker Roger Yount, who recently moved to the area.

Gemma Jones also plays the elderly widow Petunia Howe, who has been living on the streets since her newlyweds.

The series also stars Adeel Akhtar, Wunmi Mosaku and Lesley Sharp.

At the time of the series’ release, Toby explained why he was drawn to the role: “Roger isn’t an evil banker, he’s a slightly smug banker.”

“He has become accustomed to a certain way of life and is under self-imposed pressure to live that way.

“He spends a lot of money on things that others don’t spend money on – home furnishings, for example – but that’s normal for him and his wife.”

“He doesn’t have full control over his life or his work,” he added.

Netflix hit ‘Menendez Brothers’ is ‘way off the mark’ – Lyle isn’t full of anger and doesn’t even raise his voice, says Cousin

He said it was Roger’s inability to express his inner struggles that drew him to the role.

“Something shifts and changes within him, and what happens to him in the story makes him realize that his life is not what it could be,” Toby explained.

“It is a creeping dissatisfaction, a creeping feeling of loss and disorientation. He has no way of expressing it or even understanding it himself.”

The series won Best TV Movie/Miniseries at the 2016 Emmys.
