Action taken against 4,500 sex offenders in 24 hours, 51,000 such offenders identified: MP police

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh police have taken action against around 4,500 sex offenders across the country in the last 24 hours, an official said on Sunday. Police said they have also compiled data on 51,052 sex offenders in the state. β€œIn the last 24 hours, preventive action was taken against 2,469 sex offenders and 2,447 others were questioned and warned. So, 4,916 sex offenders were questioned by the police and given strict warnings,” said an official of the state police headquarters here.

On the directives of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav to ensure law and order and safety of women and girls, a campaign has been launched against sexual predators and those involved in gender crimes across the state, the official said.

As part of the drive, all police stations in MP have started intensive investigation and surveillance of people involved in sexual crimes in MP in the last decade, he said.

Information about such persons, particularly repeat offenders and those convicted of sexually assaulting girls, has been collected from various police databases, he said.

Since all police departments are involved in the operation, sex offenders who have changed their place of residence and relocated to another location in MP can also be monitored.

The official said police issue alerts if activities or behavior of such criminals are suspicious.

History sheets of habitual offenders would be prepared to give them special attention, he said.

Follow-up measures are being carried out to clear POCSO cases and other sexual crimes quickly in fast-track courts and efforts are being made to ensure speedy justice, the official added.
