2 dead in accident following high-speed police chase in Holland

HOLLAND, MI – Two people died in a crash early Sunday morning after leading officers on a high-speed chase, Dutch police said.

The case has been turned over to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office for investigation. No information about the suspects will be released until the family is notified.

The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, when police responded to a report of multiple fights at the Speedway gas station at 800 Washington Ave. received.

An officer arrived and observed a silver vehicle suddenly leaving the parking lot at a high rate of speed and traveling westbound on 33rd Street. As the vehicle drove off, several shots were heard, presumably coming from the vehicle, police said.

A pursuit ensued to Pioneer Avenue and then west onto 32nd Street. The driver eventually lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road and crashed into a tree.

Both occupants in the vehicle were found dead at the scene of the accident.

Officers who responded to shots fired on 33rd Street were unable to locate any victims. It is still unclear who or what the suspects shot at, the police said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Dutch Department of Public Safety at 616-355-1150 or Silent Observer at 877-887-4536.
