Construction worker dies in accident at Sentosa Aquarium expansion site

On Sunday (September 29), a construction worker died in an accident at the expansion site next to the Resorts World Sentosa SEA Aquarium.

A spokesperson for Resorts World Sentosa told 8world that the incident occurred at the former site of the Maritime Experiential Museum, which is not open to the public.

According to the spokesperson, a contractor involved in the project informed them of an accident at the construction site in the morning that resulted in the death of a worker.

At around 10:30 a.m., a reporter from Lianhe Zaobao arrived at the scene and found that the entrance was blocked by two large door panels.

Many employees were stationed outside while police and civil defense officers entered and exited the construction area.

At around 12:45 p.m., employees cordoned off the street in front of the site and prohibited visitors from passing through.

The road was reopened about 10 minutes later, leading to speculation that the body may have been removed by now.

Meanwhile, the aquarium next door remained open to visitors.

In conversation with MS NewsSingapore Police said they were alerted to an industrial accident at 8 Sentosa Gateway at around 7.55am.

A 44-year-old man was unresponsive and was pronounced dead at the scene by an SCDF paramedic.

Preliminary investigations indicate that no crime was committed, but police investigations are ongoing.

According to The Straits Times, Resort World Sentosa’s expansion – which includes renaming the SEA Aquarium to Singapore Oceanarium – began in 2022.

The oceanarium is set to expand to three times the size of the current aquarium, but no official completion date for the project has been announced.
