Boy, 8, dies after being shot in the face on a Cumbria farm | UK News

An eight-year-old boy has died after being shot in the face in a suspected accident on a farm in Cumbria.

Police said they were called to the remote farm in the village of Warcop just before 3pm on Saturday.

The boy was flown to hospital by rescue helicopter after suffering a gunshot wound to the head and face.

Cumbria Police said the child died from his injuries overnight.

A man in his 60s was arrested at the scene in Warcop, almost 20 miles southeast of Penrith, on suspicion of assault.

He remains in custody, but has now been arrested on suspicion of grossly negligent homicide, police said.

It is understood investigators believe the child was the victim of accidental discharge.

A Cumbria Police spokesman said the firearm was “recovered at the scene” and an investigation was ongoing.
