Tragic attack on Punjab workers: Tensions rise in Balochistan

At least seven workers from Punjab province were killed by separatist militants in Pakistan’s restive Balochistan province, police reports said on Sunday. The workers, from Multan, were fatally shot late Saturday night while sleeping in an under-construction house in Khuda-e-Abadan area of Panjgur city, Balochistan Inspector General of Police Moazzam Jah Ansari said.

Ansari confirmed that the workers were fast asleep when armed terrorists stormed the house and fired automatic shots. Fortunately, one worker escaped with injuries while another was not present during the shooting. An ongoing investigation is expected to uncover further details of the attack.

A security official pointed out that the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) was likely responsible as the attack bore similarities to previous incidents. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif immediately condemned the attack, demanded a report from Balochistan’s chief minister and reiterated the government’s resolve to eradicate terrorism. President Asif Ali Zardari also condemned the attack.
