Drones attack the Russian oblasts of Rostov, Voronezh and Yeysk

Several oblasts in Russia reported drone attacks and explosions overnight, with incidents occurring in Rostov, Voronezh and Yeysk oblasts. The attacks resulted in fires, property damage and increased security measures in the affected areas.

The attacks represent an escalation in drone activity on Russian territory and raise concerns about the vulnerability of civilian infrastructure and military facilities far from the Ukrainian border.

Rostov Oblast borders Ukraine, while Voronezh Oblast is about 180 kilometers (110 miles) from the nearest point of the Ukrainian border, indicating a significant range of reported drone strikes.

Governor Alexander Gusev claimed that Ukrainian drones were shot down in Voronezh Oblast. No casualties were reported. Gusev said a falling drone hit an apartment complex, causing a fire and damaging the children’s playground and several cars.

ASTRA, citing local residents, reported that a fire broke out in the village of Somovo in Voronezh Oblast.

The Russian Defense Ministry said it shot down 17 drones over Voronezh Oblast overnight, one of which is said to have hit an apartment building in Voronezh.

Following the drone strike, residents of Volgograd Oblast also reported drone strikes and subsequent fires, one of which was visible near the village of Sady Pridonya in Gorodishchensky District.

According to reports, there was an attack on an ammunition depot in the village of Kotluban in Rostov Oblast. Iranian ballistic missiles and their launch systems are said to have been stored there. An airfield fire was also reported, but details are not yet known.
