Reports of violence and abuse in a facility in Lviv Oblast: UNICEF Ukraine statement [EN/UK] -Ukraine

KYIV, September 28, 2024– UNICEF is appalled by reports of violence and abuse that have taken place over many months at a boarding school in Lviv Oblast. This information was released following a monitoring visit to the facility by the Office of the Ombudsman and the National Social Service.

Such horrific behavior towards some of the most vulnerable children is completely unacceptable. Such incidents should never happen and tragically illustrate why UNICEF and our many partners continue to advocate for family-based, rather than institutional, care for every child.

UNICEF is encouraged by the progress and commitment of the Government and its partners in family-based care and reiterates our support to ensure the right to a safe, caring and loving family environment for every child. These recent child rights violations highlight the urgency of prioritizing practical measures to advance the agenda for better care reform.
