Ding Dong moves and trembles under seismic influence | Entertainment

Ding Dong’s massive influence on the dancehall music industry over the past two decades is not just limited to his captivating dance moves or his reputation for producing catchy, clear lyrics. His influence extends far beyond music – shaking up everything from community building to fashion, taking a cue from the Jamaican economy and elevating the conversation about dancers’ rights and their contribution to dancehall culture. Ding Dong is not just a well-known dancer and performer; He is an advocate, style icon and ambassador.

What sets him apart is his unique journey. It’s rare for a dancehall artist who started out as a dancer to form a powerful group like Ravers Clavers that stays rooted in the street while transcending space. While he never lost sight of carving out his own niche, Ding Dong rocked the stages with his music, his dancing and his commitment to those who supported him.

The 44-year-old star’s recent birthday bash, presented by Magnum Tonic Wine and Romeichs Major Marketing at Mas Camp, was a perfect example of how he remains true to the love of his craft despite the changing tides in the entertainment world. For Ding Dong, it was never about money, but rather about energy, creativity and respect for those who helped shape his career. Despite the torrential rain that night, Ding Dong’s spirits and the momentum of the party never wavered.

“I have created so many hit dances, hit songs and accompanied so many other artists and dancers,” he shared. “The key [to] What I do is the love of it. I never do music and dance for the money, I just really love it. Things and times have changed in the industry. Nobody does it for the love of it, but for what it brings, and to be fair, I can’t tell anyone to do it just for the love, because it will be costly to you too, but respectful, grounded, focused staying and holding morals is what keeps me going.”

Ding Dong’s creative process, which is closely intertwined with the Ravers Clavers’ contribution, begins with the pulse of the music. For him, what matters most is how the body reacts to the rhythm. “Your body reacts differently to sounds. I like to hear the music first and then the energy flows. Sometimes we have an idea for a dance move or a song and then build on that vibe.”

DANCEHALL BUSINESS PAGE

Over the course of his reign, Ding Dong has used his influence to shake up the business side of dancehall, becoming an ambassador for major brands such as Magnum Tonic Wine, Grace Foods and Western Union.

“Being associated with some of these corporate brands and serving as a global brand ambassador has been very important to my growth and responsibilities – knowing how to behave and conduct myself at all times – and has shaped me into what I am now am an individual. Companies need to do their background research before hiring a street dancehall artiste. They test you, observe you in public to make sure you fit their vision before they sign you,” he shared. “It’s probably easier for me to go and follow certain paths because I do certain types of music and I can’t actually do certain types of music. So that’s another way it shaped me as an artist.”

In addition to dance and music, Ding Dong has also expanded his presence into fashion with his clothing brand DNDG, which launched in 2022, the same year he was appointed Dancehall’s Chief Dance Officer by Magnum. His goal is to make the brand known worldwide.

“This has been going on for about two years now and we want to take the brand to this pinnacle of style and influence globally by releasing products that consumers – the fashionistas – will love. “The products are already available online,” revealed Ding Dong.

As he evolves from a dancehall artist to a businessman, Ding Dong remains encouraged by his journey and is forever grateful for the support of his family, fans and friends.

“It’s just dedication and hard work, the ability to learn and keep going and grow and change over time without deviating from your values. To be a businessman in the sense of a corporate ambassador, you have to learn that not all money you make is good money. If you can build a relationship with a company, it is always better. I think that’s what helps me and keeps me humble.”

“To all my supporters and dancehall lovers who came to my birthday party on September 21st and stood in the rain until it got so bad they had to walk through the storm…big respect and love to everyone ah unuh always.” As the party doesn’t start until 2:30 a.m., it’s raining heavily, but it’s showers full of blessings and love for you, and it reminds me how much I’m loved in this dancehall arena,” Ding Dong added.
