#4 Alabama survives late scare to defeat #2 Georgia 41-34

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WBRC) – The Alabama Crimson Tide survived a late scare from Georgia with a late touchdown and an interception in the end zone with less than a minute to play, sealing the defeat of the second-ranked team in the country, 41-34.

Alabama stunned Georgia by taking a 28-0 lead early in the game. At halftime the score was 30-7, with the Tide having 202 more total yards than the Dawgs. And remember, Alabama was a home underdog entering this game for the first time since 2007.

The Crimson Tide defense silenced Georgia quarterback Carson Beck in the first half by forcing two interceptions. Beck was also called for an intentional grounding in his own end zone, resulting in a safety.

Meanwhile, Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe put on a show. Milroe finished the first half completing 18 of 20 passes for 186 yards and a touchdown. Milroe accounted for 305 of Alabama’s 355 yards of offense in the first half.

The Bulldogs made adjustments in the second half and eventually took the lead over the Tide 34-33 late in the fourth quarter.

On the following drive, Milroe threw a pass to freshman Ryan Williams that took it 75 yards to the end zone. After a two-point conversion completion to Germie Bernard, the Tide went up 41-34.

Georgia then got the ball back and drove the ball into Alabama territory. On a deep pass from QB Carson Beck into the end zone, Bama freshman Zabien Brown jumped in front of the Bulldogs’ receiver and intercepted the ball, sealing the victory for the Tide.

The Tide improve to 4-0 on the season. The Bulldogs fall to 3-1.

Alabama will face Vanderbilt next Saturday in Nashville. Georgia is back at home and will play Auburn.
