Premier League: Liverpool go top with Wolves win, Arsenal survive Leicester scare

Liverpool climbed to the top of the Premier League table with a hard-fought 2-1 win over bottom-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers. Ibrahima Konaté scored his first Premier League goal and Mohamed Salah sealed the win with a second-half penalty.

The breakthrough came in first-half stoppage time when Diogo Jota beat his defender on the left and delivered a perfect cross for Konaté. The 25-year-old centre-back fired a header past the Wolves goalkeeper to give Liverpool a 1-0 lead.

However, Konaté was involved in a defensive error that allowed Wolves to equalize in the 56th minute. It seemed as if the Frenchman let the ball roll for a goal kick, but Jürgen Strand Larsen kept it in play and crossed from close range to Rayan Aït-Nouri, who scored the ball.

Liverpool reacted quickly. Just five minutes later, Nelson Semedo fouled Jota in the penalty area and Salah calmly converted the resulting penalty to restore the lead and calm the Molineux crowd.

Arsenal survives Leicester scare

Meanwhile, Arsenal managed a dramatic 4-2 win against Leicester City. Mikel Arteta’s side appeared to be in full control in the first half and Gabriel Martinelli opened the scoring in the 20th minute. In injury time before half-time, Martinelli then provided the assist for Leandro Trossard to double Arsenal’s lead.

Leicester were ineffective in the first half but found their way back into the game at the start of the second half. In the 47th minute, a free kick from James Justin was deflected and smashed into the net, and then in the 63rd minute, Justin scored a stunning volley that leveled the game and shocked the Emirates crowd.

However, Arsenal regained their composure in stoppage time. Trossard converted Bukayo Saka’s corner to make it 3-2 and Kai Havertz secured victory with his fourth goal. The win took Arsenal to 14 points, level with Manchester City, who drew with Newcastle United earlier in the day.
