ATP Beijing Day 4 predictions including Alcaraz vs Griekspoor

It’s time to conclude the second round of the men’s singles competition at the 2024 China Open. Second seed Carlos Alcaraz will attempt to meet top seed Jannik Sinner in the quarter-finals but must first see off Tallon Griekspoor. Who do you think will emerge victorious at the ATP Beijing?

ATP Beijing Day 4 Predictions

Bu Yunchaokete vs. Lorenzo Musetti

Head-to-head: First meeting

Bu Yunchaokete secured his top 100 debut last week by reaching the semi-finals in Hangzhou and managed to defeat Chengdu champion Juncheng Shang in the opening round here. He has shown that he can compete with players like Lorenzo Musetti and has improved his game significantly this year. This seems pretty obvious as the Italian is still most vulnerable on hard courts. But what the Chengdu winner couldn’t do, the runner-up in this event may be able to do. He should be well rested and has a much larger repertoire than the Chinese.
Prediction: Musetti in 3

Karen Khachanov vs. Francisco Cerundolo

Head-to-head: Khachanov 6:0

It will be their fifth meeting in 2024, and although some duels have been close (notably Miami and Monte Carlo), the record of head-to-head duels is pretty damning for Francisco Cerundolo. In particular, their last game in Cincinnati was a complete defeat. And that’s because Karen Khachanov hasn’t even played that well this year. Cerundolo should get his first win over the Russian at some point, but it looks like he’ll need one of his best hardcourt performances of the season to do so.

Andrey Rublev vs Alejandro Davidovich Fokina

Head-to-head: Rublev 4:0

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina hasn’t been a consistent performer in recent years, but over the course of the season he produced enough top performances to keep himself much higher up the rankings than he is now. This time we start with the final months of 2024 and it is difficult to name a memorable result from the Spaniard this year. Maybe the little break he took after the US Open, he looked a little better on Friday against Zhizhen Zhang. But he still has to prove that, especially against a top-class opponent like Andrey Rublev.
Prediction: Rublev in 3

Carlos Alcaraz vs Tallon Griekspoor

Head-to-head: Alcaraz 4-1

The joy in his game that Carlos Alcaraz lacked at the US Open seems to be back in his game. Although one could argue that the Spaniard doesn’t have much left to achieve as the season progresses ahead of the ATP Finals and the Davis Cup, along with the fun, his motivation has been restored. That makes him a scary candidate for anyone in the draw except Jannik Sinner (and perhaps even the world No. 1). Tallon Griekspoor has not conceded a set since their first meeting in Montpellier qualifying in 2021.
Prediction: Alcaraz in 2
